Matrix is a word for womb.

Kete can also mean womb.

The strands that come together to form a matrix or a kete are known in the māori language as whakapapa.

In weaving terms, we use sinistrals and dextrals to create our reality.

The sinistral (sinister, evil, lefty) crosses over the dextral (the good, the right hand of god), some call them the mamas and the papas. Weavers have a way of seeing the world.

In a time where worship of identity, image and objects is the norm, weaving brings me back to fundamentals.

For weaving to progress we need a left and a right hand, a left and a right whenu (strand, weaving strip).

This expresses the foundational and universal truth that all matter even at the atomic level, is created from a positive and a negative, left and right, light and shade, good and evil, female and male.

Where they meet, there is life, matter, birth.
